The Build

The Moondrop Blessing 2 is a well-built IEM of a medium to large size. However, you can change the fit by changing the ear tips used, allowing the Blessing 2’s to move away so as not to be so close to the ear. Moondrop includes three different sizes of silicone ear tips with Blessing 2. For this review, we also used ear tips from SpinFit, which provide a better fit for us.

There were a few things we did not like at the Blessing 2. For one thing, we did not like the size of the IEM. While it did fit, there was a slight pressure due to the larger size. The other thing is that the area where the front faceplate is pressed into the rest of the IEM is not very smooth. There is a rough seam where these two surfaces meet.

Let’s Play

We used the iBasso DX240, iBasso DX320, and the SPL Phonitor SE for this review. We also used a balanced cable with a 4.4mm Penticonn connector from Effect Audio.

We used a passage from Quatuor Artemis “Molto allegro vivace,” which has many stops and quiet paths for the song. Molto introduces us to the technical challenges of the Blessing 2. One of the first challenges was the upper frequencies. The result is a rolled-off extended high register. However, the sound of the IEM is still very pleasing.

The Blessing 2 produces powerful bass and speed but requires power. Even though the Blessing 2 is rated at a sensitivity of 117 dB/Vrms @ 1 kHz and 22 Ohms, this is at +/- 15%, thus needing extra power to sound at their maximum potential. A high-power amp coupled with a balanced cable helps achieve sweetness.

Daft Punk’s “Lose Yourself To Dance” benefits from a higher gain amp. On the other hand, the Blessing 2 sounds a bit lifeless and weak without a higher gain headphone amp, especially for the bass.

While not the most detailed, the Moondrop Blessing 2 is pleasing to listen to as an everyday-carry-IEM. The song “Lee and Arnez” by Otis Taylor highlights all of the strengths of the IEMS. These strengths include transients, low-end prowess with proper amplification, and dynamic mids.

Some Recommendations

·        Since the Blessing 2 IEM is on medium to large size, we’d recommend Moondrop make the housing of the Blessing 2 IEM smaller to accommodate additional users.

·        As mentioned above, the Blessing 2 IEM need to be cleaned up as there is a bit of discomfort due to the roughness.

·        A minor complaint is rating the Blessing 2 IEM at +/-3 instead of +/-15 dB for volume levels. Due to this, you need slightly more volume to have the best experience with the Moondrop Blessing 2 IEM.

Final Thoughts

The Blessing 2 provides an excellent bass response and mid retrieval as an everyday carry because they are not fatiguing. At $319.99, the Moondrop Blessing 2 IEM may not be for everyone, but it can be a part of an upgrade to your stable with proper amplification. Therefore, we give the Blessing 2 our recommendation when paired with the appropriate amplification.
