Emotiva BasX A-300

Revised September 3rd 2019

A compact audiophile powerhouse offering from Emotiva? The Emotiva A-300 two channel power amplifier was provided to me for this review. All thoughts and opinions are that of my own. Weighing in at 25.2 lbs, and 17” wide x 4” high x 15.5” deep we have a fairly normal affair. As well as a solid milled front aluminum front plate, and steel chassis as the PT-100 pre-amp in one of this two-part review.

In addition, the led’s on the front panel indicate the status on the amp, blue for on, and red for fault. These can be turned off.

It is here where we are greeted with the back of the A-300. Note, the ease of access to left and right channels. The A-300 also auto-senses the correct voltage is you are on 115v or 230. In addition to this you can turn on and off the channel lights, which otherward stay on during operation. For an class A/B amp that makes 150 per channel at 8 Ohms, and 300 at 4 Ohms, the amp runs quite cool.

The A-300 uses a toroidal transformer to produce a healthy amount of power. This with the benefits of staying light and and low hum. With this is a cleanly laid out power section, one that you would not expect at a this price point.

How does this the A-300 sound? One to keep clarity, with such pieces as Jessica Lauren Barlow’s self-titled album, never becoming muddy, as this is a very complicated Jazz piece just as Dave Matthews -Under the Table, yet another complicated album. Or the album Canciones de me Padre, from Linda Ronstadt. With this, we challenge the high-end octaves, and yet does not break up. And last, Yello’s-Toy for defined bass, not just rumble.

It was not till I really taxed the amp at high levels that the fans come on, and it was here that the one minor complaint came to be. At high volumes the fans do come on, to a what is an otherwise quiet experience. These are not the quietest, and I suggest that these changed to a quieter type of fan.

The A-300 is part of the BasX family as well which ensures quality components are used, and that a lifetime of use will be ahead is ensured.

To sum it up this is a powerhouse of Audiophile Amp from Emotiva at a truly affordable price. Solid build, clean power, and Audiophile gear that all can purchase.
